So much more than words, storytelling has shaped and preserved the evolution of cultures since the beginning of time.
From one truth to the next, stories carry the experiences, history and culture of a people, their beliefs, and values, but also their hopes, dreams, and struggles. It is what ties each and every one of us together – the beauty of the human condition that comes alive through storytelling.
Global Storytellers is a platform and vehicle for these truths to be told. It is the reason eight years ago, I founded this organisation.
Our team of tourism experts have unrivalled experience in the planning, design and implementation of new tourism destinations and experiences through storytelling.
One of our founding pillars, storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, it is the most wonderful way of connecting people and cultures of a destination.
Authentic in every way
There is an authenticity to hearing these stories from their source – it allows the host to tell their story with truth, conviction, and pride. Real people – real stories, descendants who have shared their life experiences in the very mountains, valleys, rivers, and lakes of their homelands.
Stories that become the lifeblood of generations to follow passing down a sense of place, a sense of belonging and a sense of pride. Stories that maintain a people’s existence, real in the context of today.
A shift from entertainment to a deeper understanding
Cultural attractions are moving away from performances to experiences that genuinely connect and engage with visitors. It’s not just a song and dance anymore but a delivery of customs and beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation, an expression of human culture that weaves the past to what is now present day.
Looking back to the future
Now more than ever, people are looking to the past for answers. Indigenous Elders, who have preserved the surviving and progressive elements of their culture, are also thirsty for guidance on how to sustain their culture into the future.
Because storytelling is not just about looking back at history, it’s also looking forward to seeing what’s to come. It plays an important role in shaping the next steps and a powerful medium to safeguard and empower communities through awareness and education.
Storytelling also adds immeasurable value to cultural products and experiences by offering audiences the opportunity to connect first-hand with their hosts and to gain a deeper understanding of their culture in a meaningful and fulfilling way.
